The Aru to Lidderwat Trek is a beautiful short trek in the Kashmir Himalayas, starting from the peaceful Aru Valley near Pahalgam and leading into the green mountain landscapes of Lidderwat. It is a wonderful choice for travellers who want to experience Kashmir’s forests, meadows, streams and mountain scenery without taking on a very long trekking route.
Lidderwat lies in a scenic valley between the Kolahoi and Tarsar mountain ranges. The area is also an important base for several longer Himalayan treks, including routes towards Kolahoi Glacier, Tarsar and Marsar.
The valley is surrounded by dense pine forests and open alpine meadows. During summer, shepherd families bring their livestock to these highland pastures, adding to the traditional character of the landscape. In spring and summer, wildflowers appear across the meadows, creating colourful scenery against the surrounding mountains.
The streams and rivers of this region are another important part of the landscape. Water flowing from the high mountains, including areas around Tarsar, Marsar and Kolahoi, contributes to the Lidder River system. From the higher parts of Aru Valley, trekkers can enjoy views of snow-covered peaks and beautiful mountain slopes.
This Aru Valley to Lidderwat trek is suitable for travellers looking for a relatively short Himalayan walking experience, with enough time to enjoy the surroundings rather than rushing from one campsite to another.
