Itinerary for Great Lakes Kashmir
Day 1 : Srinagar To Sonamarg Altitude 2800 Meters 3 Hours Drive 80 km distance
Start after noon from Srinagar to Sonamarg over night foot hills of Tajwais glacier. On bank of Sind River in camps. This is very important for acclimatization. A short hike to tajwais glacier can be wonderful to get in high altitude condition.
Day 2: Sonamarg to Nichnai valley Trekking altitude 3500 Meters 6 hours Walk 11 km distance
Start from Sonamarg up to Shukderan. The Trail encounters long pine trees , Vast pastures , covered with lush green grass ,white mountains , and glacier stream that will run along the way. The trail leads through silver birch forest and finally leads through boulders up to Nichnai valley. This is your first day on high altitude so headache is common.
Day 3 : Nichnai to Vishansar Lake Trekking Altitude 4000 Meters 7 hours Walk 13 km distance
Start from Nichinai valley the first climb up to Nichnai pass is steep 3 hours. The top is almost 4000 meters high. The meadows en route are carpeted with a startling array of wild flowers and incorporates the magical view of great Himalayan mountains. After Nichnai top descending gradually to the lake of vishansar campsite.
Day 4 : Vishansar Lake 3500 Meters Altitude
It is rest day you can sight seen around vishansar trout fishing
Day 5 : Vishansar Lake To Gadsar Lake Trek Altitude 4300 Meters 8 hours walk 16 km distance (Review Difficult)
This is tough day for every one in team, You need best weather to cross the pass. Start from Vishansar the first climb to Krishansar lake is easy going. From Krishansar lake two hours very steep ascend up to Gadsar top 4300 meters. From the top the real paradise begin of magical great lakes. On a clear day a magnificent view of the Nanga Parvat is possible. Wild flowers, glaciers, rare herbs, wild animals are other beauty of this trail.
Day 6 : Gadsar Lake To Mengandob Trek Altitude 3400 meters 4 hours walk 10 km distance
This is easy day walking, The trail starts from Gadsar campsite. After crossing the snow bridge it is a easy ascend up to Kustoorkut. Then turn left to satsaran lakes their is only permanent settlement across the jawdora village. After reaching the campsite you can visit near by satsaran lake.
Day 7 : Mengandob To Gangabal Lakes Trek Altitude 4000 Meters 6 hours walk 11 km distance
The Day starts with climb from mengandob to zaji pass 3 hour. From zaji pass you will see twin lakes of Gangabal, Nandkhol lakes and gigantic Mount Harmukh. There are other small lakes to see from the pass. From Zaji pass it is bit diffcult descend to Gangabal campsite near the lake.
Day 8 : Gangabal lakes to Naranag Village 6 hours walk 15 km distance
The day starts with easy Walking up to Budshare top. From top it is difficult descend to Naranag village ,It is worth to see Naranag temple before drive back to Srinagar.

Advice: IT is very difficult to carry your bag pack of 15 kg. As trek is high altitude even if you are experienced trekker it will take you extra 2 hours to reach campsite .still it is advisably to let the horse carry your bag and a small bag pack carry your self.

The Kashmir Great Lakes Trek starts from sonamarg about 2800 meters from sea level. The weather remains unpredictable , short rains ,hails , low speed storms , den fogs are expected during high passes. It is advisable to avoid further proceeding during bad weather on trek. Temperature: Days are warmer 20/0°c to 25/0°c and nights are about 10/0°c. The higher we go the Temperature drops and cold winds at evening drops down the temperature.

Start with gradually and surpass the pace day by day wise,do a few squats and extends to expand your stamina. Food has parcel to do with your stamina , home cures have awesome result, take garlic soup each dinner, use ginger tea in breakfast. Me and my group done the GLK for 8D+7N with Mr Riyaz Pakhtoon. It was very short to enjoy the hills and mountains(that was exactly happen to me). Trek has been an awesome experience with breathtaking views of valley, river & mountains. Everything was beautiful and fresh during trek. The hospitality of Mr Riyaz service was incredible. We have no issues an accommodation.
The food was so good, fresh and the most important is "balanced food" credit goes to chief Cook Mr Taariq (riyaz brother) for the unexpected yummy food.
All the crew was amazing and FUN!! We really enjoy with them. All of them humble, professional, friendly & supportive. Thank you Riyaz crew for taking care of us during the trek. Mansoor our guide know the best spots to take the photo. I love every picture that i have. Credit goes to Mansoor for the great picture. Overall the tour was amazing & filled pure of joy.
